The ‘Road Crew’ range is multi-section, high-performance and exceptional! Largely based on the most popular of our exclusive Millerods models, they’re ideally suited to fishing here in Australia – or anywhere in the world where your favourite rod is needed!
The “Mad Miller JUNGLE BEAT’ is a totally different style of rod to all other Road Crew, from the custom matte paint to the action to the materials. The design origins lie in Ian’s custom rod model ‘Papuan Bass’ that he made for PNG bass anglers (including himself) for decades and as far back as the 80’s.
This new rod model was first in line for development of the travel rod range, as Ian knew he finally had the technical access to get the blank made exactly as he wanted it!
Ian’s concept has always been an easy casting rod with the ability to fold away after hookup and allow the angler to have some control over the fight. So basically, the Jungle Beat is the opposite to other stiff crowbar style graphite rods. This rod is easy casting, it does fold away, and it is incredibly robust!
In the hand, the tip section flexes easily to facilitate casting the current style lures often used for big bass. The lower section is simply all power, which comes into play on virtually every hookup especially if the current is running and the fish is a solid model!
At 6’0” length, the Jungle Beat is very accurate to cast around structure. It’s not designed for distance – Papuan black bass are not a fish you should give a long cast advantage to – but the length does allow for a reasonable casting reach when required. And it’s also ideal for any big fish that doesn’t play nice around structure; large barra, snakehead, peacock bass, giant catfish and more.
Blank construction is all custom; high-grade composite and even solid ‘glass, depending on what is best used for that section! Our exclusive custom Road Crew blanks are not based on a simple selection of material that runs throughout the range, or even throughout each model. All ferrules are ‘put in’ style, creating the optimal solution to create a more robust blank while maintaining smooth action and the Millerods benchmarks of balanced sensitivity!
The multi-guide train features 9 guides plus tip-top in corrosion proof titanium frames, and super hard Zirconia ceramic. This further enhances the smooth action and provides exceptional line control.
Of course, our custom exclusive anti-tangle hook keeper will be there at hand to keep your lure at the ready, but otherwise virtually disappears.
The ergonomic handle features a strong but lightweight carbon reel seat and conventional locking hood for strength, fitted with a carbon screw grip for low profile. The grips are extra-firm EVA. The casting grip is black while the butt grip is green Camoufish EVA. The rounded EVA butt cap is comfortable to leverage the rod against the body when fighting big fish.
^Millerods recommends the use of the FG knot for connecting braided fishing lines to monofilament leaders. All Ian’s lure casting guide trains are selected with this connecting knot in mind.
